Hello everyone, Kenneth here.
In 2018, myself and Jamie completed building our boutique-scale distillery out of a disused garage behind the Green Hotel in Kinross. Suffice to say, it was so much more work than we ever imagined and our wee team has learned so much.
Today, we have a fantastic, albeit small, making space, with really modern distilling equipment, all of which gets the best out of all the different ingredients we work with, but my favourite is my beautiful steel, glass and copper hybrid still, which is our centrepiece and helps make the cleanest, smoothest & most flavour rich gins that I’ve ever tasted.
From the beginning our mission was simple (or so we thought) – create a local distillery that makes amazing spirits and sits right at the epicentre of Kinross, in the heart of Scotland.
To begin with Jamie and I really wanted to a bottled gin range which paid homage to Kinross, and hopefully Loch Leven Gin reflecting what we are surrounded by here – an area of such significant beauty, heritage and nature – from the castle itself to our stunning views, golf courses-a-plenty, trout fishing and the yearly sight of thousands of winter fowl who join us on their journey.
I guess it’s fair to say that I love nothing more than spending hours (days and weeks, quite often) at the distillery creating new gin recipes…so we’re able, with our friends at the Loch Leven Brewery Tap room in toe, to offer different gin expressions, each served from glorious glass demijohns. Throughout each year we’ll be featuring some local ingredients, and of course some from further afield too, so we can continue to promise some darned nice gin (as always)…
